About the L.A.U.G.H. Foundation

Crystal P. - Founder of the L.A.U.G.H. Foundation

The L.A.U.G.H. Foundation was started originally in December 2009 after Crystal P. saw the outpouring of love that was shown towards her daughter, Bria, when she toured Europe in the summer of 2009 at just twelve years of age. The thoughtfulness and unselfishness of others prompted Crystal P. to want to do for other children in the community and provide them an opportunity to travel abroad.

Crystal P. came up with L.A.U.G.H. Foundation because as a comedienne, Crystal P. loves to laugh but provide laughter to others. However, the word “laugh” had to have a meaning, thus making the word into an acronym which stood for Learning And Understanding God’s Help. Crystal P. wanted to afford children the opportunity to learn but wanted them to also understand that when someone sows into you, that person should sow into someone else when they are able. Crystal P. believes that anyone who sows abundantly will also reap abundantly and sowing represents “God’s Help” in the L.A.U.G.H. acronym.

The L.A.U.G.H. Foundation sat dormant for a few years until Crystal P. could obtain the Government Tax Identification, non-profit status through the State of Michigan and really put the work behind the L.A.U.G.H. Foundation that was needed for the foundation to thrive and be effective.

Recipient of the Fairy God Mother Award. She has taken in over 20 foster children

In February 2012, a fire was lit under Crystal P. to put the L.A.U.G.H. Foundation to work for the community and for the benefit of children. Using her own personal money, Crystal P. opened up the checking account for the L.A.U.G.H. Foundation and began seeking donations from friends and family. In addition, candy was sold and a skating party was held to help with fundraising. With the efforts of Crystal P. and her daughters, Brittany and Bria, they helped to raise over $3,000 in just two months. All of their work is STRICTLY from volunteering. No one gets a salary from the L.A.U.G.H. Foundation. All money raised goes to the fund and to help children.

Because of the generosity of people from Royal Oak Township, Crystal P.’s hometown, people from Facebook which included the groups, Friends of Angelo B. Henderson, It Takes A Village and I Grew Up in Detroit along with the cast from Vanessa Lynn’s BOSS LADY stage play, the L.A.U.G.H. Foundation was able to provide ten scholarships to deserving students, set up three college funds for children of deceased parents and helped two children travel; one to Brazil and one to St. Louis, Missouri. In addition with cooperation of P.F. Chang’s in Troy, MI and All Dressed Up Boutique in Ferndale, MI, the L.A.U.G.H. Foundation was able to provide pamper/spa days for a liver transplant recipient, a kidney transplant recipient and a Stage 4 breast cancer survivor as well as provide dinner to a woman who has taken in over 20 children into her home, providing them with a safe place to stay as well as schooling and setting them up to be productive adult members of society. And this is just the beginning. The L.A.U.G.H. Foundation looks forward to doing bigger and better things for the children in the community in 2013 and beyond.
