Detroit’s Queen of Clean Comedy
Crystal P., often dubbed as Detroit’s Queen of Clean is affectionately known as the C.H.A.S.E. because she is a Comedienne, Host, Actress, Singer and Entertainer. Crystal P. becomes a chameleon on stage to fit in and serve her audience regardless of age, gender or race.
Crystal P. was bitten with the comedy bug as a child, but it wasn’t until 2004 when she was persuaded by her best friend to head to Los Angeles for an audition at the renowned Laugh Factory. Being on that stage was her confirmation that comedy was indeed her calling. She returned to Michigan and began hitting every stage imaginable.
A year later, Crystal P. was encouraged by that same best friend to audition to be the opening act for Walter Latham’s P. Diddy’s Bad Boys of Comedy at the Fox Theater in Detroit. Passing the preliminary test, her final test was to compete against five other comedians and make the listeners of FM 98 WJLB laugh via the radio airwaves. Crystal P. passed with flying colors taking 83% of the votes cast to be the opening act and winning the title Royal Crown’s Crowned Comedian.
That following year, Crystal P. received numerous phone calls from her friends and even her mother pleading with her to compete to open for one of the Kings of Comedy, Steve Harvey, at the Fox Theater in Detroit. Crystal P. wrestled with the decision to compete, but relented after receiving a call from a prominent radio personality. Knocking off 75 of Detroit’s funniest and best, Crystal P. not only won the opportunity to open for Steve Harvey, but she snagged the title Detroit’s New Queen of Comedy and her first major paycheck. This helped to solidify Crystal P.’s credibility in the comedy game thus providing her with opportunities to be booked at many of the major comedy clubs plus colleges, churches and private parties throughout the United States, Canada and Bermuda.
Crystal P. used her comedy gifts to secure roles in stage plays and movies, commercials and many hosting gigs. Crystal P. was featured in the hit gospel stage play Boss Lady which was released on DVD and sold out nationwide in Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy and Amazon. Currently, the play has found its way to the streaming channel, Tubi. Crystal P. also played the loved interest of Saturday Night Live original and comedic genius, Garrett Morris in the film Pawn Shop which also featured comedians Joe Torry and the late Reynaldo Rey.
Crystal P. has appeared on Showtime at the Apollo, NBC’s Last Comic Standing and recorded A Time to Laugh with Vickie Winans for B.E.T. Other comedy credits include being part of Jonathan Slocumb’s Cuss-free Comedy Tour, Laughalujah, Two Jokers and A Queen Comedy Tour, The Hood Kings of Comedy and being chosen as the Washington DC Regional Finalist for the Gospel Superfest.
When Crystal P. isn’t on stage, she is directing her energies towards her philanthropic efforts by serving as the director of the L.A.U.G.H. Foundation which focuses on providing scholarships, tutoring services and funding for children to travel abroad. Crystal P. believes in sowing in the lives of children and supporting them in their endeavors because “the children are our future.” Crystal P. is also a professional baker and taught children (and adults) how to bake from scratch during the pandemic and was featured on Fox 2 News Detroit.
The motto she lives by is: The purpose of life is to have a life of purpose. And her favorite scripture is Proverbs 17:22 – A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
